2026 Marana Thunder Executive Board

Coach Britt serves as the President of the Marana Thunder Board. A proud father of three energetic kids—Princeton, Loulou, and Phelix—and husband to Leah, he has spent the last 15 years serving the youth in various community programs. Known for his passion, mentorship, and strategic mindset, Coach Britt is committed to developing young athletes and building a culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence across the organization.

Brian serves as Vice President of the Marana Thunder, helping lead and support football and cheer programs that focus on teamwork, character, and fun. He is passionate about creating a positive experience for athletes, families, and volunteers, and works closely with the board and coaches to support the continued growth and development of the program while strengthening ties within the local community.

Brian believes youth sports play a vital role in teaching responsibility, resilience, and respect — lessons that extend far beyond the field and apply throughout all stages of life.

Hi! My name is Jessica Smith, and I’m excited to be serving as secretary this year! I was born and raised in San Diego but moved to Tucson when I was 18 years old and have been here ever since. I am a mom, wife, and local small business owner. I have two beautiful kids who are part of Marana Thunder. My son, Blake, plays 10U football, and my daughter, Dakota, is a cheerleader. My husband, Jeff, is an assistant coach for 10U, and I served as the team’s business manager last year. As a family, we love football, cheer, and being part of a community. I enjoy volunteering and helping build and shape these kids in my free time. I’m happy to be a part of the Thunder family..

 Jaden Avenenti

 Jaden Avenenti was born and raised in Tucson Arizona, being an active meaden Avenenti was born and raised in Tucson Arizona, being an active member of the Marana community for many years through student council, cheerleading, and dance. She graduated from Marana High School and is currently a Nursing student at Pima Community College and works as a patient care tech. This is her second year coaching with Thunder and can’t wait to see what we can accomplish! She has 15 years of cheerleading and dance experience. Starting as a youth cheerleader herself and moving to competitive and highschool cheer, as well as a year on the #2 nationally ranked Marana dance team. My name is Malcolm Sams I have coached from the little league up thru the High School levels.  I'm committed to enriching young minds and talent.My family and myself are Government transfers, so we are proud to call Marana our last home.  We have been part of Marana leagues for three years now.I played football from little league up to the Collegiate level,  I was in Track/Field from Middle School thru the Collegiate level as well.

Sonia Velez is the Fundraising Director of the Marana Thunder Board. Originally from Michigan, she has called Tucson home for over 11 years. She attended UNLV, earning degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and Nursing. Sonia is a dedicated wife, mom, and nurse. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, working out, and spending time outdoors with her family. The Velez family has been part of the Thunder program for three years!

My name is Carl Weller. I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. Growing up, I

played several different sports, including football, baseball, and soccer. I have 2 children and

one of which will be playing for the Thunder for his second year this season. I have been an

assistant baseball coach for several seasons in Marana Little League and head coach for the 9U

Thunder last year. I serve on the board to help the youth community and

provide safe and fun space for them to then to learn the game of football..

Rick Sepulveda is the Equipment Manager for the Marana Thunder Board and is now in his third year with Thunder football. As a U.S. Air Force veteran, Rick brings structure, accountability, and a strong work ethic to everything he does. His focus is on making sure every player is equipped with gear that fits properly and is ready for game day.

He’s seen how much of a difference the right equipment can make when gear doesn’t fit right, kids get distracted. But when it does, they’re free to focus, learn, and play with confidence.

Coach Aaron Uhe brings unmatched energy and a true passion for youth sports to his new role as Player Development Director. Coaching year-round across multiple age divisions in t-ball, baseball, and football, Coach Aaron is deeply committed to helping young athletes grow in skill, confidence, and character. His hands-on approach and love for the game make him a trusted mentor and leader in the Marana Thunder family. We’re excited to have him guiding our program's next generation of talent!

John Hackett is the Events/Volunteer Coordinator for Marana Thunder.

John Hackett brings over 20 years of experience in the hotel, hospitality, and food & beverage industry. Originally from the Midwest, he’s built strong roots here in Southern Arizona and is a familiar face in the community. Whether it’s organizing, coordinating, or lending a hand, John is the kind of guy who just gets things done. If you need something—chances are, John’s already on it. We're lucky to have him on the team.
