2024 Marana Thunder Executive Board

Shawntel Dotson is our newly appointed President of Marana Tunder! Despite her preference for brevity, her warmth and dedication to our cause shine brightly. As she steps into this leadership role, we can expect her quiet strength to inspire and uplift our youth community. With her compassionate spirit and inclusive approach, she'll guide us towards greater unity and achievement. Though she may be a woman of few words, her actions speak volumes, demonstrating her commitment to empowering others and fostering a supportive environment. As we embark on this journey under her leadership, let's embrace her vision and enthusiasm, knowing that together, we'll make a difference in the lives of our youth and beyond.

Coach Phillip Britt is the Vice President of the Marana Thunder Board. He is a father of 3 rambunctious kids (Princeton, Loulou, and Phelix) and a husband to his wife Leah. He has been a volunteer in the youth community for the last 15 years in various programs that support various demographics. He is a passionate coach and mentor that believes in the process and collaborating to achieve the best results.

Sonia Velez is the Fundraising Director of the Marana Thunder Board. Sonia is originally from Michigan but has lived in Tucson for the past 10 years. She attended UNLV where she obtained Bachelor's in Biology, Chemistry, and Nursing. She is a wife, mom, and nurse here in Tucson. In her spare time she enjoys dance, working out, and spending time with her family outside. Her family has been with Thunder for two years! 

My name is Carl Weller. I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. Growing up, I

played several different sports, including football, baseball, and soccer. I have 2 children and

one of which will be playing for the Thunder for his second year this season. I have been an

assistant baseball coach for several seasons in Marana Little League and head coach for the 9U

Thunder last year. I serve on the board to help the youth community and

provide safe and fun space for them to then to learn the game of football..

Callie Baker is originally from small town Texas, but grew up right here in the Tucson area. Her and her husband, Ron, have three children, Otto, RJ and Sammi. RJ plays football for the Thunder and Sammi is one of our cheerleaders. Callie has worked in early childhood education for more than 20 year, the last 10 being in Preschool administration. 2024 is Callie's first year on the Thunder executive board ans she is excited to get started. 

My name is Malcolm Sams I have coached from the little league up thru the High School levels.  I'm committed to enriching young minds and talent.My family and myself are Government transfers, so we are proud to call Marana our last home.  We have been part of Marana leagues for three years now.I played football from little league up to the Collegiate level,  I was in Track/Field from Middle School thru the Collegiate level as well.

Introducing Steve Herman, our enigmatic Director of Operations. With a background shrouded in mystery, Steve brings an aura of intrigue to our organization. A master of efficiency and precision, Steve navigates the intricate web of logistical challenges with ease, often leaving colleagues bewildered by his uncanny ability to anticipate their needs. Behind his stoic demeanor lies a passion for excellence and a commitment to ensuring that every aspect of our operations runs seamlessly. With Steve at the helm, our organization ventures into uncharted territories, guided by his enigmatic leadership and unwavering dedication to success. (We love you Mr. Herman)

Beth Price

Elizabeth “Beth” was born and raised right here in Marana, and so was her husband Ryan. They were both involved in youth sports and/or 4h growing up and love being able to do the same with their 3 kids(Garrett, Hayden, and Sterling). Aside from being a Cheer Mom for Thunder Beth is a Special Needs mom and Special Education Aide for MUSD who is extremely passionate about advocating for the special needs community and kids. This is her families 2nd season with Thunder and she is excited to be more involved and helpful this season.
